From a first splash with your baby to swimming without a parent in the water, our programme gives children a place to build confidence and develop their swimming skills. We teach babies from six weeks old and children up to seven at our Chiswick and Twickenham centres.
Our lessons follow the STA framework. Your child’s starting point depends on their age, experience and confidence, with progressive levels to help them build on what they have learned.
Bright Start Babies
6 weeks to approximately 2 years
A shared introduction to the water, with songs, activities and your support in the pool. Eight progressive levels introduce water confidence and early swimming skills.
First Time Toddlers
2–4 years · New to structured lessons
A welcoming starting point for toddlers with little swimming experience. Join your child in the water as they get to know the pool and develop early skills.
Talented Toddlers
2–4 years · Previous swimming experience
Build on existing confidence and swimming skills through progressive activities. A parent or guardian stays in the water as children work towards greater independence.
Kick-Start Kids
4–7 years · Lessons without a parent in the pool
Four levels support children from their first independent lessons through to developing strokes and stamina, with no more than four children per teacher.
Find the right starting point
New to First Swim? Use our level finder to match your child’s age and experience to a suitable class. If your child has learned elsewhere or you are unsure about their confidence, contact our team before booking.
Progression is based on the skills your child can demonstrate, rather than moving up simply because a term has ended. Your teacher can help you understand the next step.
